Setting Up LDAP
The LDAP setup contains a master server that stores the LDAP directory, one or more replica servers, and client machines. The server that contains the LDAP directory and provides the directory service to other hosts in the domain is called the master server. The LDAP clients are machines that access information from DITs stored in the master server.
In addition to the master server and client machines, the LDAP domain may also contain replica servers. The replica servers can be compared with the slave servers in an NIS environment and replica servers in the NIS+ environment.
