The Macromedia Director Metaphor

Macromedia Director MX is a complete environment for the creation of multimedia. Think of it as an artist’s canvas. Or, to use the metaphor that Director follows, a stage.

You can fill this stage with your own production. Any element in the production is called a cast member or simply a member. The computer screen where the action takes place is a window called the Stage.
