2 The first steps

Let’s get started! I will assume that Stata is installed and running on your computer. In this chapter you will learn what Stata looks like, how to open and save files and document your work.

2.1 The graphical user interface (GUI)

You will (hopefully!) see this screen (Figure 2.1)4:

Basically, there are six different areas.

  1. the largest part, is the Results window. Here you will see the commands you entered as well as the corresponding output, that means, the results Stata calculated for you.
