THE EMBEDMENT GOAL TRILOGY
After much trial and error and a few wrong turns, we finally pinned down the three types of goals critical to innovation embedment (see Exhibit 3.4). All three sets of goals had to be driven by the vision for innovation embedment.
This portfolio of goals is an ever-changing landscape that needs to be refined and tinkered with constantly—daily, weekly, and monthly. The challenge is that because these goals are likely communicated to large groups of people who use them as a touchstone, their formal rate of change needs to appear constant. Although they may be discussed and debated at the executive level on a continuing basis, they should be communicated in a more stable manner.
