In Chapter 2 we introduced the idea of experimental strategy that calls for screening experiments to be run prior to optimization experiments. In this chapter we introduce the screening concepts and designs for formulations. As the Aesop fable suggests, it is important to take a broad view of the possible components before getting into formulation optimization. We discuss screening experiments when the components can be varied over the full range of the components, 0 to 100%.
