I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

THE LIGHTING FOR this image was insanely simple. I underexposed the ambient light to bring out the dramatic clouds and lit the model (it’s a self-portrait) with a single flash into an umbrella. What makes the image work is the insane expression—not easy to do with families walking by staring at the crazy shirtless guy with the sword. The hardest part? It was so windy I had to keep one foot on the bottom of the light stand to keep the umbrella from dumping ...
