In this chapter, the response of single-DOF systems to sinusoidal or simple harmonic excitation is discussed. The two single-DOF configurations discussed in Chapter 3 are included, i.e. excitation by a directly applied force and excitation by base, or support, motion. However, there is now a third case to consider, excitation by a rotating unbalanced mass. Figure 4.1 shows the three standard configurations.
