Between 1998 and 2004, I worked very closely with Sumantra – more closely than I ever had with anyone before in my life. We developed research findings as well as concepts and ideas which probably could not have emerged as they did with anyone else. The research process – and the outcome of it – are closely linked with his unique nature. I would like to illustrate some of my personal views toward this end by using key milestones from our joint work.
