Introduction

The majority of traditional stock will be still in use in 2050, when the UK government has set a target of 80% reduction in carbon emissions.¹ To achieve these ambitious targets there is a push to improve the energy efficiency of all buildings in the UK. This chapter will explore traditional residential buildings, which currently represent approximately 22% of the building stock, to establish the impact of these policy pressures.
