1 Getting Started

In this chapter, you will get your environment set up and take a small tour of some of the tools you will use every day as an iOS and Mac developer. Additionally, you will get your hands dirty with some code to get better acquainted with Swift and Xcode.

Getting Started with Xcode

If you have not already done so, download and install Xcode, available in the App Store. Make sure to download Xcode 7 or higher.

Once you have Xcode installed, launch it. The welcome screen gives you several options, including Get started with a playground and Create a new Xcode project (Figure 1.1).
