3A Formal Process of SoS Modeling and Analysis
In this chapter, we present a process for modeling and analysis specifically tailored to SoS problems with all their distinction introduced in Chapters 1 and 2. We start by describing key elements for proper SoS representation: hierarchy, lexicon, and taxonomy. Having a well-defined and commonly agreed upon lexicon is useful for enabling semantic interoperability among the various modelers, analysts, and decision-makers. Hierarchy and taxonomy are useful for relating components of the SoS into usable sets which can then be analyzed both in isolated and integrated contexts.
