One of the frustrating things about HomeKit—and home automation in general—is that it’s a closed ecosystem. Some accessories work with multiple ecosystems, but many only work with one.

For instance, let’s say you want one of those super-popular Ring doorbell cameras. You can buy and install one, and even access it from your iPhone, but it won’t integrate with Home for Automations or Scenes. It may not be a deal-killer, but it is annoying to not be able to manage your home automations from a central place.
