Researching and writing this book was a most extraordinary journey. What I thought would take one year turned into four years, and during that time, I interviewed, engaged in public discourse and maintained ongoing correspondence with hundreds of subject matter experts.
My journey began with early writings on various media platforms and gained momentum through my academic lectures and ongoing executive education workshops. This work allowed me to interact with a wide range of people in private industry and government, at universities and think tanks and in the news media.
Readers may recognise some portions of my research from a series of publications on techno-nationalism that I authored as a research fellow at the Hinrich Foundation in Singapore. For that opportunity, I am grateful to Merle Hinrich and also to Kathryn Dioth, who encouraged me to pursue my topic of techno-nationalism after I initially defined it in a white paper on semiconductors, published in January of 2020. Regarding the Hinrich Foundation’s other outstanding people, I am grateful to Berenice Voets, Andrew Staples, and Dini Sari Djalal for their editorial acumen.
