This chapter focuses on the policies that could be implemented to counteract technological unemployment (and/or its consequences) should it actually arise. In particular, the first five sections and half of Section 2.6 describe some of the possible policy tools that could be implemented to prevent the impact of technological progress on employment before this impact occurs; Sections 2.7 and 2.8 and half of Section 2.6 deal with the possible policy tools that could be implemented to counteract the negative consequences of technological unemployment after it has occurred.
