When people regularly focus on their desired states (the goals they want to achieve), they are activating their reticular activating system (R.A.S.). As seen in Chapter 1, the R.A.S. is the part of the brain which screens out irrelevant information in the environment and helps a person detect relevant data. The working of this system is congruent with a well-known saying which goes “what you focus your attention on, increases.”
