In his critique of security, Mark Neocleous [1] suggests that practitioners see security as being a good thing under all circumstances, and that they hold a corresponding belief that security must always be “maximised”. That is, there is no such thing as an optimal level of security. You can always have more. In my experience, that’s a fair summary of the thinking across much of the industry. It reflects the idea that security exists outside the business environment.
