Create Your Business Entity

When I was in college, I performed at a jazz festival with my quartet. They paid me by check. When I visited my local bank to deposit the check, I ran into a problem. This wasn’t good, because I needed to pay the other musicians from this check. At the teller window, I learned the bank couldn’t deposit the check into my account. I asked why. The conversation went like this:

Bank Teller: It isn’t made out to you.

Me: But it is made out to the Tom Stein Quartet, and I’m Tom Stein.

Bank Teller: But you aren’t the Tom Stein Quartet.

Me: I see. What should I do?

Bank Teller: You have two options. You can go back to whoever wrote the check and ask them to write out another check to you, or you can open a business ...
