Chapter 22. Starting the journey

Connected companies today are the exception, not the rule. But as long as the environment is characterized by change and uncertainty, connected companies will have the advantage. There are four ways your company can start that journey today: organic growth; top-down, leader-driven change; pilot pods; and network weaving. You can take the first steps on Monday morning.

Connected customers are adopting disruptive technologies faster than companies can keep up, and the resulting complexity is overwhelming current business structures, causing confusion and disarray.

To survive, companies must develop the means to absorb complexity and variety. They must be able to respond, learn, and adapt more rapidly, and the only way to do this is to distribute control to front-line units and help them build the capabilities that they need to win.
