Abstract
Asking what a focus on identity might add to contemporary debates over the implications of artificial intelligence for the future of work and employment, I adapt Paul Ricœur’s notion of narrative identity as a lens to outline a research agenda directed at the lived experiences of digital disruption in the workplace. I specifically foreground the processes through which working people are seeking to find a place for themselves within, comprehend and apprehend these more or less fluid situations in order to render them intelligible, manageable and navigable.
