So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 1. What Is a Digital Negative?
A Twelve-spotted Skimmer dragonfly (Libellula pulchella) shot with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 camera with a 14-140mm lens. I didn’t have to go far to shoot it, OZ Park in Chicago (about 3 blocks from my studio and on the way to Starbucks).
A digital negative is a raw capture from the sensor of the camera with little or no processing but with camera-generated metadata. Why do I call these files digital negatives? Well, it’s what Thomas Knoll (the guy who wrote Camera Raw) calls them, and they are like an analog (film) negative in that, without some sort of processing or printing, they can’t really be seen and ...
