Historically, some Asian* governments have been criticized as focusing on economic development first, and leaving environmental and social policies for later [1]. Environmentally, China is far behind Western Europe or the United States. 76 percent of China’s energy comes from coal-burning power plants, compared to the 35 percent global average [2]. This, combined with large, young populations and fast growth (compared to Western countries), requires aggressive policies to minimize depletion, devastation, and dehumanization impacts.
