3   Overview of NRSC-5

NRSC-5 Versions

The NRSC-5 standard, initially adopted in April 2005, is a single document supplemented by various other documents. It summarizes the structure of IBOC and refers to the “reference documents” to obtain the details. The initial version of the standard, called “NRSC-5” was considered by the NRSC to be the “core”2 standard because it addressed the key functions of transmitting digital audio in the AM and FM bands. “NRSC-5 core” (meaning the NRSC-5 standard as originally adopted) listed nine reference documents.
