Chapter Overview

This chapter explains how to create the three different types of overlays:

• Ground overlays

• Screen overlays

• Photo overlays

The chapter begins by describing each type of overlay and typical uses for it. Then it explains basic concepts that apply to all three types of overlays. These concepts include the following:

• Color (described in detail in Chapter 2)

• Transparency (described in detail in this chapter)

• Draw order

• Icons

In Chapter 2, you learned how to specify a viewpoint using the <LookAt> element. Here you learn about the other AbstractView element, the <Camera>. Either a <LookAt> or a <Camera> element can be used to specify the viewpoint for any Overlay (or Feature).
