The concept of culture in organisations has grown in significance over the past 20 years. This is partly because of dissatisfaction with the focus on the structural and technical aspects of the operating systems in some organisations and partly because of the shift in emphasis to the world of values and ideology.
But what exactly do we mean by culture? I once asked a group of middle-managers from a major car manufacturing company to tell me what culture meant to them.
