If China does enter the fi ghting, it will be ugly for the Chinese.
U.S. forces will have guaranteed air superiority and the conven-
tional Chinese tactics of human wave formations will be decid-
edly ineffective in the face of modern air weapons at the disposal
of U.S. F- 16s. Nuclear brinksmanship will surely come into play as
well, but what China has to lose compared to what it has to gain
from defending North Korea points to a probable end game of a
negotiated solution.
The aftermath of such a war will probably look much like the af-
termath of regime collapse, which is discussed in our second scenario.
