Objective: Determine how to divide the labor between the Dedicated Team and the Shared Staff. (See chapter 1.)
Step 1
Using table AT-1, list the skills required to execute the innovation initiative. Often it is helpful to start each skill description with an -ing verb. For example, designing, engineering, manufacturing, or selling. Then indicate whether or not the skill sets are available or not available within your organization. If you can hire outsiders with appreciably stronger skills (or, potentially, “hire” by acquiring a small company) and the improvement in skills might make a significant difference for the initiative, then mark not available.
