As Deborah takes her morning run through Los Altos Hills, a Silicon Valley neighborhood of pastoral landscapes where many of the technorati live, she is reminded of the region’s past and its future. There is Gordon Moore, who founded Intel and whose namesake is Moore’s Law.¹ Around the corner is the estate built by Wilfred Corrigan, a man instrumental in the growth of Fairchild Semiconductor and later founder of LSI Logic Corporation. There is the home of Sergey Brin, the cofounder of Google and current president of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, which is leading innovations in the autonomous automobile and Google Glass, among so many other inventions.
