15.1.1. Use of Music in Advertisements

The use of music in a commercial advertisement rarely qualifies as a fair use. You need a synchronization license to use a song and a master use license to use a sound recording in a commercial advertisement. Use of an existing professional recording may also require payment of re-use fees to certain entertainment unions. See Chapter 22 for a more in-depth discussion of music licensing.
