Where to start? From concept to completion this book has taken five years, and along the way we received much assistance and encouragement (and some abuse) from a large number of people.
The idea of writing a book on the cost of capital stemmed from a global cost of capital initiative in which the authors were heavily involved at PricewaterhouseCoopers (or rather Price Waterhouse as it then was). This initiative was all about approaching cost of capital estimation in practical commercial situations, and a number of papers were produced from the findings. Some of these papers inspired the material covered in this book.
