Histograms and Pixel information
The histogram is a graphic representation of the tonal values in the scene. It tells you how much of the scene is comprised of darks, lights, and midtone values. It also tells you when you are losing detail in the shadows and highlights.
In Figures 1.10 and 1.11, you see first an image that contains a full range of tonal value and detail and then the histogram that represents it. In this image you can see detail in both the shadows and the highlights.
