Use this chapter to get up to speed on the controls and control locations used on digital point-and-shoot and DSLR cameras. Although you might use a camera that differs in some ways from these cameras, many cameras from different vendors use the same or similar controls and markings.

Blue markings on camera controls are used to indicate functions when viewing (playing back) photos.
The Coolpix L3, shown in Figures 2.1 and 2.2, is a typical example of a low-end pocket-sized digital point-and-shoot camera. It includes a 3x zoom and a large number of scene settings.
