Theremin-Like Instrument
The theremin is a musical instrument developed in the 1920s by Russian Léon Theremin. The original instrument used radiofrequency electronics and a pair of antennas. By moving your hands in front of these antennas, you could control both the pitch and the volume that the instrument produced.
This Arduino version does not use radiofrequencies to convert hand positions into sound but rather uses an ultrasonic range finder. The distance sensed will determine the pitch of the sound (Figure 11-1).
