Discussion on Firewall Architectures

Although the old definition of a firewall was “a wall constructed to prevent the spread of fire between multiple rooms,” today it means something entirely different to IT professionals. Firewalls are simply intended to help limit data coming in and out of your network from the Internet. You can think of the “fire” in this case as being a hacker, and a firewall is used to help block the dangers of the Internet.

Even though a firewall helps block data coming to and from your network, it typically allows a certain amount of data in and out, based on your configuration needs.
