Mark J.P. Anson, Ph.D., JD, CFA, CPA, CAIA, is the managing partner and chair of the investment committee of Oak Hill Investment Management. Previously he served as president and executive director of investment services at Nuveen Investments, Inc., an asset management company that in 2009 had over $140 billion in a diversified blend of investment products across multiple asset classes.
Prior to Nuveen, Anson was the chief executive officer of Hermes Pensions Management Ltd. With $160 billion in assets, Hermes is one of the largest asset managers in the City of London. In addition, he was the chief executive officer of the $80 billion British Telecom Pension Scheme, the largest U.K. pension fund.
Before joining Hermes, Anson was the chief investment officer of the $245 billion California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS)—the largest pension fund in the United States. Prior to CalPERS, Anson gained experience as a trader and portfolio manager after working as a lawyer.
Anson received a scholarship to attend the Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago where he received his law degree with honors and served as the executive/production editor of the Northwestern University Law Review.
