The Content Life Cycle

Information typically moves through a standard life cycle, beginning with the creation of the content itself and ending in the eventually permanent retention or destruction (deletion) of the content. While some aspects of the content life cycle, shown in Figure 2-2, are common in almost all content management systems, we will attempt to highlight key features and capabilities that are sometimes absent from basic content repositories in addition to outlining each aspect of the life cycle for those who are unfamiliar with the terminology. The content life cycle may span multiple systems, different integrations, and usually extends across multiple user contexts.
