Choosing images

An effective image can bring your writing to life, while badly chosen images can ruin it, so here are a few quick tips:

  •     Use the highest quality images you can

    A low-res image might look OK at a normal zoom but horribly pixelated or blurry if your reader uses a high zoom to view it. And few things shriek ‘Amateur!’ as loudly as a poor image.

  •     Respect copyright

    If you’re prepared to pay for high-quality images, you’ll find thousands on sites such as Getty Images or Shutterstock; and if you’re not prepared to pay, use one of the several sites offering royalty-free images such as Pixabay.
