The Concepts

The following UML, object-oriented, and other concepts are cited in this chapter. For a more complete discussion and more rigorous definitions of UML concepts, refer to Booch et al. [1999].

Use case model— typically refers to the use case model of the information system being built versus the business use case model. It is a depiction of how the system capabilities (depicted as use cases) are used by the actors.

“Extends”— a stereotype of a relationship that indicates an optional use case flow that may be executed, based on a specific criterion.

“Includes”— a stereotype of a relationship that indicates a use case flow that is inserted into another use case or use cases at one or more points.
