Whenever this book talks about zooming, it’s referring to basic optical zooming. Semantic zooming, on the other hand, refers to a type of zooming that doesn’t necessarily preserve the appearance of the content. Instead, zooming out involves switching to a higher-level view of the content that’s more useful for navigating it “at a distance.”

The Windows shell exposes semantic zooming in several important places. Many apps, such as the Photos app, expose it as well. In all cases, there are two distinct views to zoom between.
