The Lock Screen

Using the same techniques already demonstrated for live tiles, an app can easily display status information on the user’s lock screen. The lock screen has two regions you can update, with the user’s permission. One is a badge that works much like the badge on a tile, and one is a larger region that can contain text, much like the text on a live tile. On both a phone and PC, the user is able to select many apps that show badges on the lock screen, and only one that shows custom text. On a PC, this is controlled in the PC & devices section of the PC Settings app, shown in Figure 24.19.
