Chapter 3. Toolkit

UE4 provides a vast toolkit of Blueprint functions that you can use when creating your VR experiences. This chapter introduces some of the generic VR libraries that Unreal Engine offers, as well as some of the more vendor-specific ones.

Generic Function Library

When creating VR experiences in UE4, you have various helpers and functions available to you to query things from the current user’s head position to the temperature of the HMD sensors.

Alongside the API-specific functions that Unreal Engine gives you to interact with an individual HMD’s SDK, there is a generic Head Mounted Display function library that gives you access to various things common across multiple HMDs (see Table 3.1).
