APPENDIX AConfiguring Your AWS Account

You will require an AWS account set up to perform the exercises that are described in this book. This appendix describes the steps for doing so.

Step 1: Navigate to the AWS Website

1. Open your web browser (e.g., Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge).
2. Go to the AWS homepage at https://aws.amazon.com.
3. In the top-right corner of the page, click Create An AWS Account.

Step 2: Create Your AWS Root Account

1. Enter your email address in the Root User Email Address field.
2. Choose an AWS account name by typing something you'll easily recognize (e.g., JohnSmithAWS or MyCompanyAWS).
3. Click Verify Email Address and enter the verification code sent to your email.
4. Create a strong password and confirm it by typing it again.

Step 3: Provide Contact Information

1. On the Contact Information page, choose Personal or Professional depending on why you're creating the account.
2. Fill in your full name, phone number, country/region, address, and city.
3. Select the option AWS Customer Agreement once you've read or acknowledged it.
4. Click Continue.

Step 4: Provide Payment Information

1. You'll be asked for credit card or debit card details (AWS does require a valid payment method even to use free-tier services). Enter your card number, expiration date, cardholder name, and billing address.
2. Click Verify And Continue.
