VoiceXML applications require a “voice portal,” which provides access to the media resources such as Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS). Through the voice portal, VoiceXML applications obtain access to the telecommunications and Internet infrastructure used to deliver services to end-users (see Figure 2.1).
