Chapter 8: Knitted Electronic Textiles: From the Design to the Integration Process

Rita Paradiso; Laura Caldani    SMARTEX srl, Prato, Italy

Abstract

This chapter is about the methodology that has been used in a series of projects to develop a monitoring system based on textile technology, starting from the design of the single components that are conceived as a part of the whole architecture through the refinement of the platform according to the results of the functional tests. Knitted textiles have been selected as the main embodiment of the wearable system due to the conformable nature of the materials and the flexibility offered by the knitting technology.
