One of G1’s most anticipated promises was the phone’s Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) capabilities and accompanying location services. That’s hardly surprising, considering that GPS units were one of the hottest Christmas gifts for 2008.

The uses for a GPS are limitless. Finding directions and pinpointing location are common uses, but less common ones include social networking and event routing. The buzz before the G1’s release was more of a question: Would it include GPS capabilities, and how would they work with Android?
