The effect of the presence, or exclusion, of balance in the interior design or architecture of a space, can reduce distraction and allow features to coexist, to harmonise, making us feel less unsettled in our effort to assimilate what we are seeing.
Within the context of design and buildings, an image referring to ‘balance’ can bring to mind a more traditional, perhaps Palladian style of design. This inclination to its definition can be limited. ‘Balanced’ does not exclusively indicate the same objects on both sides.
