Joining a Wireless Network

Windows 8’s new Networks panel makes connecting to a wireless network easier than ever. This section shows you how to connect to wireless networks in some common—but distinctly different—scenarios.

The basic steps are the same in each case:

1. Open the charms, select Settings, and then click the Network icon at the bottom. Alternatively, at the desktop, click the network icon at the right end of the taskbar.

2. The Networks panel opens, as shown in Figure 36.1. Windows displays a list of the names (SSIDs) of the wireless networks that it “hears.”
