The Domain Name System (DNS) is an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard name service. Its basic design is described in Requests for Comments (RFCs) 1034 and 1035, and it has been implemented on many operating systems including UNIX and Microsoft Windows. All versions of Windows automatically install a DNS client as part of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). To get the server component, you must install the DNS Server service.
