Turn On Network Discovery on the Windows Vista–Based PC

As noted, although you may see a pop-up on the Windows Vista–based machine (which I’ll call the host) or your second PC (which I’ll call the guest) stating that a network has been found and you’re connected, you still need to work through a set series of steps to set up the network. This is important because you must turn on network discovery and establish what you want to share on every Windows Vista–based PC.

On each Windows Vista–based computer, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Network And Internet.

  2. Under Network And Sharing Center, click Set Up File Sharing.
