Surfing the Tube is almost nothing like surfing the Hawaiian Pipeline, which, for those of you who don't know, is a Mecca for surfers with boards — not browsers. First and foremost, surfing the Tube is a heck of a lot safer: You don't have to watch for other surfers, dodge the occasional flying surfboard, or avoid any finned creatures that may be in the vicinity. Successfully surfing the Pipeline may take a lot of skill, but surfing the Tube and actually finding what you want takes only a little a bit. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to find what you want on the Tube, but you can find it a lot faster by adopting some of the techniques we present in this chapter.

Finding More Than One Way to Search YouTube

We're going to stick with our Pipeline metaphor for a while. After all, surfing the Tube is similar to surfing the Web, and the Hawaiian Pipeline is another form of surfing; albeit, inherently more dangerous. When you surf the Web, you can go to your favorite search engine to find what you want. And wouldn't you know it, YouTube is a Google company.
