Prerequisites

  • Attendees of this course should be RHCSA certified, or have knowledge at an equivalent level

Materials, downloads, or Supplemental Content needed in advance:

The course participant needs to install and configure a lab environment. For the lab 3 virtual machines are needed, all using the latest version of CentOS. Install one machine with 2GB RAM and 12 GB storage, using the “Server with GUI” installation pattern, and 2 machines with 1 GB RAM and 10 GB storage. These may be installed using the “Minimal” installation pattern.

Schedule

The time frames are only estimates and may vary according to how the class is progressing.

Segment 1: Setting up a Lab Environment (1 hour)

  • Instructor will show how to set up a lab environment that allows participants to practice the acquired skills in their own environment.
  • Attendees will follow along while the instructor demonstrates.
  • Break: 10 minutes

Segment 2: Configuring Remote Authentication (1 hour)

  • Instructor will explain setting up remote authentication
  • Students will learn the different authentication options offered in RHEL 7
  • Break: 10 minutes

Segment 3: Managing Kerberized NFS (2 hour) with a 10-minute break in the middle

  • Instructor will explain steps for setting up Kerberized NFS
  • Lab Exercises

Segment 4: Managing Advanced Apache Features (2 hours with 10 min break in middle)

  • Instructor will demonstrate how to configure Apache to work with SSL Certificates, authentication and hosts restrictions
  • Lab Exercises
  • 10-minute break

Segment 5: Setting up a Caching-only DNS Server (20 mins)

  • Instructor will explain setting up a Caching-only DNS server
  • Lab Exercises

Segment 6: Configuring Postfix for e-mail Forwarding (20 mins)

  • Instructor will explain configuring Postfix for e-mail forwarding
  • Lab Exercises

Segment 7: Analyzing and Optimizing Performance (40 mins)

  • Instructor will explain performance analysis and optimization through sysctl
  • Lab Exercises
